In the dialogue themed “Public health, COVID and vaccination”, Brnabic also pointed to the importance of digitalisation which will lead to fundamental changes in the health sector.
The Prime Minister stated that the testing and sample processing capacity of Serbian laboratories has been increased. She said that at the beginning of the pandemic we could process approximately 500 to 1,000 samples a day, whereas today this figure stands at as many as 25,000 samples a day.
She voiced hope that the expansion of capacities at the Torlak Institute of Virology, Vaccines and Sera in Belgrade and two new vaccine production lines will increase citizens’ trust and lead to a more massive vaccination.
The Prime Minister said that she is sorry about the fact that one part of the citizenry believes that during the entire duration of the pandemic and the fight for the preservation of public health the state was guilty for everything and has not done anything good.
Minister of Labour, Employment, Veteran and Social Affairs Darija Kisic Tepavcevic said that without joint fight there can be no victory, as there is no magic wand or anything that any government could do to make the virus disappear.
Minister of Health Zlatibor Loncar said that the state did everything in its power to fight coronavirus and gave the data that during the pandemic, 30 percent of those ill with COVID-19 in Serbia had access to hospital treatment, as opposed to EU countries, where that number is between seven and 12 percent.
He said that since January, 3,827 new doctors and nurses have been hired and pointed out that young doctors and nurses bore the greatest burden, with a huge help from their older and more experienced colleagues who trained them.
Minister of European Integration Jadranka Joksimovic said that the vaccination rate in Serbia is lower than the European average, but that it is important to determine the cause of such an outcome, whether there is responsibility on the part of the government or the responsibility also lies with the citizens of Serbia.
Joksimovic pointed out that the European Commission’s Report on Serbia’s progress is also available, which states that our government made serious efforts which yielded results as of the seventh week, and that Serbia harmonised measures with the WHO recommendations.
