Serbian Minister of Justice Zoran Stojkovic and his Montenegrin counterpart Zeljko Suranovic met in Belgrade today and reiterated their resolve to ensure that both ministries help raise the efficiency in combating organised crime, terrorism, and trafficking in narcotics and human beings, which they said was a shared obligation of all countries in the region, Europe and the world.
At a meeting between ministers and officials of the justice ministries of the two republics, issues related to the creation of a joint court of the State Union of Serbia and Montenegro were discussed, along with the implementation of the European Convention on Human Rights and Liberties and the Constitutional Charter, regarding the military judicial system.
It was also agreed that the issue of Serbia-Montenegro’s agent at the European Court of Human Rights should be addressed urgently. Division of authority between the two ministries was also discussed.
AS part of today’s meeting, the two ministries set up a joint working group to help coordinate their activities and agreed to sign a cooperation agreement at the next meeting in Podgorica.
Also attending the meeting were Montenegrin Assistant Minister of Justice Branka Lakicevic, Serbian Deputy Minister of Justice Branislav Bjelica, and head of European integration at the Serbian Ministry of Justice, Aleksandra Popovic.
