Minister for European Integration Jadranka Joksimovic stated today that Hungary wants a strong European Union, which is a very important message because that country is an important partner and sincere friend of Serbia.
At the press conference, after the meeting of Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Peter Szijjarto with the ambassadors of Hungary in foreign countries and her talks with the Hungarian foreign minister, Joksimovic pointed out that Serbia strives for the EU with a lot of zeal and readiness, by not faking the reforms and by making serious changes in line with the new methodology.
She said that at this moment we are ready to open 12 chapters, distributed in two clusters, and reiterated that Serbia is not running away from the implementation of reforms, but noted that the EU should also advocate its enlargement policy.
Szijjarto assessed that it is good that the debate on EU enlargement and its strengthening has started again, emphasizing that it is important for Hungary that the EU be strong, but that this is not possible if the enlargement process is not completed in the foreseeable future.
When the EU talks about expanding its thoughts to the countries of the Western Balkans, and in that region, Serbia is a key country. So, without the enlargement process, there is no strong EU, that is, without Serbia, there is no strong EU, he explained.
Szijjarto pointed out that Hungary supports the opening of all chapters with Serbia and sent a request to other members of the European Union to support it.
Joksimovic and Sijarto announced a joint session of the governments of the two countries on 7 and 8 September in Budapest.
