At the meeting, which was also attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management Branislav Nedimovic, it was pointed out that there is a lack of interest of buyers and processors of milk in increasing the purchase price of this product.
The representatives of the Dairy Association explained that, in addition to significant state subsidies, there is a need to provide a minimum protective price for this strategic product that would be periodically adjusted.
It was stated that during the pandemic, there was a drop in sales of milk and dairy products, which resulted in unused stocks at producers and reduced demand for this product.
The Prime Minister proposed a joint meeting with milk purchasers and processors, in order to reach an adequate solution.
She underlined that the Serbian government will continue to provide support to milk producers through the costs for milk quality control, as well as for the costs of vaccination and the milk premium.
The Prime Minister pointed out that she expects that the adopted Law on Regulation of the Market of Agricultural Products will introduce a system in this area and that legal regulations regarding the professional agricultural producer are being prepared, which, as she assessed, will additionally regulate the livestock sector too.
