Answering the questions of journalists at the Aviation Academy in Belgrade, Brnabic specified that 50.1 percent of the population, i.e. 2,705,458 adult citizens had been vaccinated, but that it is still far from herd immunity.
She again called on citizens to get vaccinated, especially young people, and explained that this means that our health system will not have to return to the covid regime, but will be able to treat all other patients who had to wait for the coronavirus epidemic to wane.
The Prime Minister stated that in 58 cities and municipalities in Serbia more than 50 percent are vaccinated, but that immunisation must continue.
The current percentage of the vaccinated obviously gives a better situation than in the previous waves, because, although the number of infected is growing, the number of hospitalisation is not increasing drastically, she pointed out and assessed that that is great news.
Yesterday we had 42 hospitalised patients, and 41 were discharged, and that is what the vaccine should do. That is exactly the goal we should strive for - that all those who have been vaccinated and become infected have mild symptoms, similar to those of the flu, the Prime Minister pointed out.
She underlined that the procurement of new vaccines is not planned at this moment, recalling that the Moderna vaccine should arrive in the fourth quarter.
Answering the question of what the state will do to increase the number of vaccinated children, i.e. those older than 12, the Prime Minister reiterated that vaccination is not obligatory in Serbia and that what remains is to appeal on citizens and fight against false news and misinformation due to which people are reluctant to get vaccinated, especially the youth.
