Minister of Finance Sinisa Mali, Minister of Environmental Protection Irena Vujovic and Director of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) for the Western Balkans Matteo Colangeli signed today a financial agreement worth €18 million for the replacement of coal boilers within the District Heating Project in Kragujevac, which will significantly improve the air quality in that city.

On that occasion, Mali pointed out that this is a great day for the citizens of Serbia, and even bigger for the residents of Kragujevac, because a very important agreement for ecology was signed, adding that the government is fully committed to the fight for a healthier and cleaner Serbia.
Vujovic said that, thanks to this project, boilers that are about 50 years old will be replaced.
We are going to completely disconnect the coal from the district heating system, and it is important that the works and the complete replacement of the boilers will be announced by the end of the year, she stated.
The agreement concluded today with the EBRD includes the modernization of the district heating system in Kragujevac and the replacement of the existing coal plant, which will enable the complete exclusion of coal from the city district heating.
