In an online dialogue with members of the National Convention on the European Union on the topic "Agriculture and Regional Development", Brnabic pointed out that regional development in Serbia cannot be discussed as long as there is only one highway in our country - Corridor 10.
According to her, the precondition for regional development is the construction of highways and expressways, which are currently being built in Serbia, including the Moravian Corridor, the highway from Preljina to Pozega and many others.
Brnabic emphasised that the construction of roads will reduce regional differences, and that by 2025, Serbia will have a big road network, while the construction of infrastructure opens the door for the arrival of investors and the creation of new jobs, which will keep citizens from moving abroad and will encourage them to stay to live in their places.
She added that along with the GDP growth, work will be done equally on the construction of local roads.
The second condition for regional development, as she stated, is the regionally balanced opening of factories and jobs, and the third is the setting up of a broadband internet network and digitalisation in schools.
We must enable people to have the Internet, because it is a human right of the 21st century, but also a precondition to bring sophisticated investors and show young people that they have the opportunity and conditions to stay in their communities, she said.
The Prime Minister mentioned that it is equally important to digitalise schools, and that process will be completed in 2022.
Brnabic pointed out that from 1 September, a unique information system of education will be introduced in Serbia, which will monitor how many students finish primary school, whether they enroll in secondary vocational schools or grammar schools, how many of them continue to higher education, but also how the process of their employment will go.
Another condition for regional development, as she stated, is the digitalisation of public administration, which is already largely underway and is turning public administration into a service for citizens.
Equal investment in health care is also important for regional development, Brnabic underlined. In addition to building and reconstructing four clinical centers with the help of the EU, the state will renovate health centres, general hospitals and outpatient clinics across Serbia, Brnabic announced.
