Exceptional cooperation of Belgrade, Ljubljana

Belgrade/Ljubljana, 26 May 2021

Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikola Selakovic met today with Mayor of Ljubljana Zoran Jankovic and on this occasion underlined that cooperation between Belgrade and Ljubljana is exceptional and that it has a bright future.

Selakovic said after the meeting that he is convinced that one day Serbia as a member of the EU, and its capital city, will have Ljubljana as their closest partner, and that until then the two countries will work on the deepening of cooperation.

The Minister said that he proposed the mutual opening of cultural centres as that can only bring the two peoples closer. He noted that over the previous two decades Ljubljana was a role model to Belgrade, but that Ljubljana Mayor Jankovic praised everything that the Serbian President did with the project “Belgrade Waterfront”.

Jankovic expressed satisfaction with the good understanding that exists between the two capitals, and stated that between Slovenia and Serbia, Belgrade and Ljubljana there are no problems in the field of the economy, sports and culture.

To that end, the two presidents, Aleksandar Vucic and Borut Pahor, will sign a friendship agreement in July this year, which will raise the cooperation to a higher level, he announced.

Jankovic said that the cooperation between the capitals of the two states is at a very high level, and that he is proud that Ljubljana is the second twinned city with Belgrade.

The Mayor of Ljubljana expressed special satisfaction with cultural exchange between the two capitals. He congratulated Belgrade on its development and Serbia on an efficient process of vaccination.
