Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikola Selakovic participated today in the Adriatic-Ionian Council of the Adriatic-Ionian Initiative (AII) and the ministerial meeting of the EU Strategy for the Adriatic-Ionian Region.
On that occasion, Selakovic said that it was necessary to include all available resources of this initiative more directly in finding common answers to the challenges of the coronavirus pandemic.
He pointed out that a pandemic can only be defeated by joint forces, and pointed out solidarity as the key word in these challenging times.
Adhered to the principles of solidarity, Serbia has vaccinated a large number of foreign citizens, primarily from the region. We donated a number of doses of vaccines to neighboring countries, as well as to the secretariats of regional initiatives in which Serbia participates, the Minister reminded.
The head of Serbian diplomacy reminded that Serbia entered the process of immunisation of citizens against COVID-19 at the end of last year, and underlined that it was one of the countries that faced the epidemic and the vaccination process in the most efficient way.
He expressed satisfaction with the fact that the "Izola Declaration" recognises the importance of a common European response to the pandemic and the need to review actions, especially within the EU Strategy for the Adriatic-Ionian Region, as well as the confirmation of the Western Balkans' European perspective.
Serbia's commitment to building a further European perspective and strengthening regional cooperation is unequivocal, the Minister said.
