Speaking at a press conference Milosavljevic said that on the second and final day of the conference the motto, “Less suffering, more dignity, better quality of life” has confirmed that palliative care should be one of the priorities in national and international programs.
According to Milosavljevic in order to achieve that aim it is necessary to establish strong links and cooperation between the European Council and relevant organisations and networks, such as the World Health Organisation, the European Association for Palliative Care and the working group on palliative care for central and east Europe.
Representative of the European Council Pjtor Mierzewski said that palliative care aims to help those most in need of it, as such it represents active, all inclusive care of patients in advanced stages of progressive diseases with the purpose of providing psychological, social and spiritual support.
The conference organised by the European Council and the Serbian Ministry of Health was attended by high ranking representatives of the European Council, and of the health ministries of Serbia, Montenegro, Bulgaria, Spain, Sweden, The Netherlands, Italy and Turkey, as well as representatives of governmental and non-governmental organisations from more than 30 European countries.
