Prime Minister Ana Brnabic stated today at WEF Global Technology Governance online summit that the coronavirus pandemic showed that our country's investment in digitalisation paid off.
Speaking at this event, organised by the World Economic Forum, Brnabic recalled that Serbia started investing in digitalisation only four years ago and that it managed to achieve a good result in a short period of time.
Serbia increasingly stands out in the world as a country of innovation, the Prime Minister said and added that the government focused on three crucial areas of digitalisation – economy, education and public administration.
Brnabic explained that when it comes to the economy, the goal of our country is to have an economy which is based more and more on knowledge, technology and innovation.
That is why digitalisation of education is crucial, which will have been completed by 2022, she said and specified that this means that all classrooms in Serbia will have the Internet and that pupils will start learning informatics and programming as early as elementary school.
We want to focus children on digitalisation so that they would be ready for the jobs of the 21st century, that is, we have to teach them how to think, and not what to think.
The third area which is in the focus of digitalisation is the public administration, where the aim is to digitise all services, the Prime Minister underlined and explained that this means that we are becoming a public administration which is at the disposal of all citizens and the economy 365 days in a year.
Digitalisation of the public administration saves time to citizens and the economy, it is transparent and serves the fight against corruption.
The Prime Minister assessed that digitalisation saved our economy during the pandemic and it also enabled students to switch to online classes and thus not lose a single class.
Brnabic added that the transformation of Serbia is continuing at a great pace, in order to catch up with the EU countries as soon as possible.
In addition to the Prime Minister, the speakers at the panel on the leading industrial transformations were also Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike, Siemens Chairman Jim Hagemann Snabe and Chairwoman of the leading Turkish platform for e-trade "Hepsiburada" Hanzade Dogan Boyner.
