Brnabic pointed out that the formation of a new ministry for human and minority rights and social dialogue, headed by Gordana Comic, is a strong signal and shows the position of the government of Serbia on the importance of improving the rights of minorities.
She assessed that the work of the Council is very important because it enables the solution of problems and improvement of the position of minorities through coordination and dialogue.
The Prime Minister emphasised that despite the difficult period caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the funds for financing the national councils of minorities were not reduced, which is another confirmation that the position and rights of minorities are given great importance.
Brnabic also sent an invitation to the representatives of national minorities to work in their communities to promote vaccination, in order to achieve collective immunity as soon as possible.
Comic said that the Ministry of Human and Minority Rights and Social Dialogue is committed to solving all minority problems through dialogue and strengthening mutual trust in the spirit of tolerance, which will contribute to the development of society as a whole.
The session also discussed specific plans for improving the position of national minorities in the field of education and culture, and it was emphasised that the budget fund for national minorities for this year amounts to RSD 30 million, and funds will be invested in education as a priority area in 2021, as well as for financing programmes and projects of importance for national minorities.
The session was also attended by Minister of Education, Science and Technological Development Branko Ruzic and Minister of Justice Maja Popovic.
