Minister of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications Tatjana Matic and Greek Minister of Tourism Haris Theocharis signed a Joint Statement on cooperation between the two ministries during COVID-19 and after COVID-19.
At a joint press conference with Teoharis, held after the meeting in the Palace of Serbia, Matic pointed out that this document formalised the mutual interest in maintaining the tourism sector despite the health crisis.
She announced that a special memorandum will be signed in the coming period with the Ministry of Digital Administration of Greece on the recognition of our digital certificates and certificates of vaccination, or negative tests.
In accordance with that, the Minister announced that the citizens of Serbia will be able to go on holiday to Greece this year, confirming that they have been vaccinated with any vaccine or with a negative PCR or rapid test, and the Greek borders will most likely be open for our tourists in mid-April although the season officially begins on 14 May.
The two sides are doing everything to make the trips safe this year, she said, adding that the way of traveling will be adequate in relation to the epidemiological situation and the number of vaccinated.
According to her, the fact that Serbia is the leader in Europe and the world in the number of vaccinated significantly facilitates negotiations regarding the travel of our citizens to other countries.
According to her, that is one of the key reasons why we are shown trust and the opportunity for our citizens to travel to Greece.
Teoharis said that his country will accept all vaccines, including Chinese and Russian, although they have not yet been accepted at the level of the European Union, emphasising that children up to 10 years of age do not need a vaccine or PCR test.
He announced that, in addition to the border crossing with Bulgaria, Greece will open two more border crossings with North Macedonia for the arrival of tourists from Serbia, so as not to create crowds on the Greek borders during the summer.
The Greek Minister also announced that the country would start vaccinating all its workers from the tourism sector in May.
He stated that vaccination is going well in Greece, that there are approximately 1,000 vaccination centres in the country, but that the country still does not lead in the world and Europe in the number of vaccinated as Serbia.
