Joksimovic informed her interlocutor about the activities that the Serbian government is undertaking in order to continue the accession negotiations on membership in the European Union according to the new methodology.
We accepted the reformed way of negotiations with the Union even before all the details on how the EU enlargement policy would be realised in the future were known, and thus we showed a high level of trust in our European partners, the Minister stated.
She expressed gratitude to Austria for its principled support to the European integration of our country and the Western Balkans as a whole, emphasising that she expects that the experience and support of that country, as a very important political and economic partner, will be helpful in the reform and accession process.
She voiced hope that the new format of intergovernmental conferences, as the highest form of strategic political interstate dialogue, will enable the member state to express expectations in a transparent manner when it comes to the rule of law, fight against corruption, judicial reform, fight against organised crime and other main topics.
Serbia will also be able to directly explain its reform activities on that occasion and in that way present the important steps it is taking in the accession process, she explained.
Launsky Tieffenthal said that Austria sincerely supports the European integration of Serbia, as a member state that is committed to the consistent implementation of the EU enlargement policy.
The current situation in both countries regarding the coronavirus pandemic, as well as in the region of the Western Balkans, was discussed.
The interlocutors assessed that it would be of great importance for the COVAX mechanism to become accessible and functional for the Western Balkans as soon as possible.
