Serbian Ministry of Justice to establish judicial education centre

Serbian Minister of Justice Zoran Stojkovic said in Pirot today that the Ministry of Justice will establish a centre for the education of judges and justice system employees so as to increase the efficiency and enhance the quality of courts.

Following a meeting with judges of the District Court in Pirot, municipal court judges and magistrates, Stojkovic said that municipal courts are not effective and prompt enough, adding that the presiding authorities will have to account for the inefficiency of their judges.
Stojkovic said that the Ministry of Justice is taking actions against corruption in the justice system, recalling that the preparation of an action plan, as a part of a national strategy, has been started and that an independent body for combating corruption will be formed.
According to Stojkovic, a great number of suits against those accused for corruption in courts have been filed, for it is impermissible that the whole justice system be branded corrupted or bad because of a few corrupted individuals.
The minister pointed out that inefficiency and low quality of courts have also added to the picture of corrupted judicial organs, expressing confidence in a proper solution to this problem.
