Zobel said the aim of the conference is the exchange of experience, ideas and knowledge to improve conditions for the development of SMEs.
He stressed the importance of SMEs for the development of economy in every country, adding that SMEs can quickly adapt to changes in the market. This is why there should be as many SMEs as possible in all countries, he concluded.
Deputy Minister of Economy Zora Simovic pointed out that in the past nine months 7,500 applications for registration of small enterprises have been submitted in Serbia.
According to Simovic, the goal is to establish as many medium-sized enterprises as possible so as to create new job places and make Serbia a competitive country in the European market, which implies the removal of various limitations in institutions and formation of a legal framework to facilitate their development.
National Bank of Serbia Governor Radovan Jelasic reiterated that the central bank supports the development of SMEs, but its experience shows that out of 100 applications for loans banks accept only about 30 due to unrealistic business plans, whereas only 12 applicants actually receive a loan.
The international conference on financing SMEs is organised by the Serbian Chamber of Commerce and German Foundation Conrad Adenauer.
