In a statement to Radio Serbia-Montenegro, Dabetic said that the flats will be built in eight municipalities with the largest number of provisionally accommodated refugees. Financial means for long-term housing loans have been provided in cooperation with the Council of Europe Development Bank.
Dabetic pointed out that the bank accepted the project on September 7 and once the formal contract is signed, the interest rates, which will be minimal for the circumstances in the country, should be agreed on with the banks in Serbia. According to Dabetic, it is necessary that the Serbian parliament adopts the project in a form of law, considering the fact that it represents an additional debt of the country.
The Commissioner for Refugees announced that all application requirements will be known by the spring of 2006, adding that the first flats will be built by the end of 2006, and the whole project completed in two and a half years at the latest.
