Brnabic stated that the commissioning of this gondola lift will mean a lot for the residents of this area since they will be given a completely different perspective of development.
The gondola lift on Mount Kopaonik is the second one to be opened in the past month or two, the Prime Minister said and added that the total investment in these two projects is €40 million.
She stated that despite the coronavirus pandemic, investments in the tourist infrastructure of Serbia will continue and added that some of the projects planned are the “revival” of mountains Golija and Stara Planina, on which there is a hotel, but not enough infrastructure.
The Prime Minister said that one of the projects is also the improvement of Ovcar-Kablar Gorge, which has begun in parallel with the construction of a motorway to Pozega.
We are trying to make Serbia a more attractive tourist destination and it is good that along with the fight against coronavirus, we are making investments. Once the pandemic is over, we know we will have a greater tourist offer for both domestic and foreign tourists and we will have a competitive advantage, the Prime Minister underlined.
She voiced the hope that that will be possible already this year, and it will surely happen in 2022, pointing out that the project of construction of this gondola lift was finished five months before the deadline.
The putting into operation of the new gondola lift was also attended by Minister of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications Tatjana Matic and Minister of Economy Andjelka Atanaskovic.
Matic expressed satisfaction with the fact that this project has been successfully completed ahead of the deadline and said that investments in the tourist infrastructure will continue.
She added that the gondola lift, in the time of the pandemic, as one of the largest investments in the tourism sector, brings back optimism and a hope that the recovery of the tourism industry is possible and that it will take place soon.
The works on the construction of the gondola lift started in June last year. The length of its route is 3,741 metres, it covers the height difference of 843 metres and it will take a little more than 12 minutes to get from Brzeca to the top of Mount Kopaonik.
The capacity of the gondola lift, which consists of 74 cabins with 10 seats each, is 1.600 persons per hour, but is designed so that it is possible to increase the number of cabins to 111 and the number of transported passengers per hour to 2,400.
