Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikola Selakovic talked today with Director of the Permanent Secretariat of the Transport Community Matej Zakonjsek about the activities and priorities of this regional organisation.
Selakovic pointed out that the activities of the Transport Community are of vital importance for the improvement of transport in the region of the Western Balkans and the economic development of Serbia and other participants in the region.
In that sense, according to him, Serbia is determined to remove all obstacles at the borders that hinder the improvement of economic cooperation in the region and is committed to the full implementation of the “Mini Schengen” initiative proposed by Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic.
The Serbian foreign minister said that Serbia, as the host country of the Permanent Secretariat, attaches special importance to its successful functioning and is determined to continue cooperation and provide all necessary assistance.
He assessed that the priorities of Serbia in the field of transport coincide with the priorities of the Transport Community and that our state in that sense undertakes significant activities in terms of reconstruction and modernisation of railways, intensive investment in building quality and modern road infrastructure, as well as increasing traffic safety.
Selakovic also expressed the expectation that in the next period, the realisation of transport projects of strategic importance for the region and Europe will be finalised, as well as all accompanying measures that should facilitate the flow of people, goods, services and capital.
The Minister underlined that Serbia will be active at all levels in order to facilitate transport at the borders and through contacts with neighbouring EU member states in order to establish the so-called "Green Corridors".
Selakovic also added that Serbia supports the initiative for the "Green Corridors", which have been established among the participants from the Western Balkans, to be expanded to include border crossings with neighbouring EU member states, according to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
