Support of UK government to implementation of necessary reforms in Serbia

Minister of Justice Maja Popovic talked today with Minister for European Neighbourhood and the Americas at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) Wendy Morton about legal cooperation between the two countries, which is carried out on the bilateral and multilateral levels.

Popovic emphasised that the rule of law is one of the priorities of the relevant ministry, as well as that Serbia is interested in further deepening bilateral relations and cooperation with the United Kingdom in all fields.

In addition, the Minister pointed out that our country's full membership in the EU is an absolute foreign policy priority, and recalled that Serbia is fully committed to preserving stability in the region and intensifying cooperation among the countries of the Western Balkans.

Morton pointed out that the UK supports the continuation of Serbia's cooperation with the UN International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Courts and civil society organisations, in order to prevent impunity for war crimes and respect the rights of the victims of regional conflicts.

The two officials also discussed the support of the government of the United Kingdom to Serbia in the implementation of necessary reforms, and the fact that it is the largest donor when it comes to the field of e-government.

The meeting at the Ministry of Justice was also attended by British Ambassador to Serbia Sian Macleod.
