Serbian Minister of Justice Zoran Stojkovic and Serbian Deputy Minister of Justice Branislav Bjelica met today with head of the European Commission’s delegation to Serbia-Monetengro Josep Lloveras and Head of the European Agency for Reconstruction’s Operational Centre in Belgrade Daniel Giuglaris, to discuss current projects and future cooperation in the judiciary reform process.
They agreed that providing conditions for the implementation of new law solutions, training of law officials and introducing computer technology in the judiciary system are the main priorities in reforms over the next year.
Stojkovic pointed out that the Ministry of Justice has passed almost all laws necessary for Serbia’s judiciary system to be in line with European and international standards, and that the priority at this moment is the provision of financial conditions for the functioning of a more effective and reorganised court network.
He added that significant funds are necessary for the construction of jails for minors and perpetrators of the heaviest criminal acts.
Lloveras and Giuglaris said that the Bill on the national strategy for judiciary reform is a good starting point for future cooperation, and added that they are prepared to assist the development and improvement of such cooperation.
They also agreed to form a working group for the coordination of the project for assisting Serbia’s judiciary system reform process for 2006.
