Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikola Selakovic said today, at the 130th Ministerial Meeting of the Council of Europe, which was held via video link, that respect for the rule of law cannot be abolished in any crisis and under no circumstances.
At the conference, dedicated to the rule of law and respect for human rights in the conditions of the coronavirus pandemic, Selakovic pointed out that the measures that Serbia has taken since March this year in order to prevent the spread of the infection were proportional and necessary.
He said that our country will continue to fight against the spread of the infection in a way that is in line with the principles of the European Convention on Human Rights.
According to him, in that process, our country consistently took into account the respect for the rights of minorities.
The head of Serbian diplomacy pointed out the problem of violence against women, and added that Serbia, as one of the first eight countries that have ratified the Istanbul Convention, will continue to resolutely support the fight against this social problem.
Selakovic reiterated that our country is committed to continuous cooperation with the European Court of Human Rights and that it has managed to execute the most complex judgments of that court.
I remind you that Serbia supports every engagement of the Council of Europe in Kosovo and Metohija, which aims to improve standards in the field of human rights, rule of law and democracy, and which is in line with the status-neutral policy of the Council of Europe, said the Minister.
