Joksimovic with ministers of Danube countries on EU strategy for Danube region

Belgrade, 22 October 2020

Minister of European Integration Jadranka Joksimovic today participated in the ministerial meeting of the EU Strategy for the Danube Region (EUSDR), held as part of the Ninth Annual Forum organised by Croatia this year held through a video conference.

On that occasion, Joksimovic emphasised the importance of this strategy for Serbia and other participating countries, and welcomed the adoption of the Economic and Investment Plan for the Western Balkans, which provided the European Commission with strong and very concrete evidence that the Western Balkans is an area of strategic importance for the European Union.

She emphasised that, as the National Coordinator for IPA Funds, she will make an effort to harmonise the plans for directing these funds for the entire region of the Western Balkans, among other things, with the priorities of the EU Strategy for the Danube Region.

The Minister especially pointed out that joint planning and coordinated financing through such initiatives are necessary for sustainable and accelerated development of the region, and that today's meeting of the countries of the Danube region is an important step towards achieving that goal.

In a joint statement, the ministers of the Danube region expressed their determination to respond to the changes caused by the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic through the promotion of measures for the renewal of socio-economic trends in the Danube region for the benefit of citizens.
