Brnabic pointed out that all investments that were focused, above all, on making agriculture more resistant to climate change, paid off as soon as in two years through better results.
She mentioned that funds were allocated for irrigation projects, field electrification, various subsidies, development of rural tourism and connection to the Internet and underlined that we should work even faster in this area, because, as she pointed out, there is no smart development of Serbia without comprehensive work in this sector.
Brnabic, who is also Prime Minister-elect in the new government, said that this national programme will be one of the documents she will have in front of her when she writes a keynote address of the new government.
Minister without portfolio in charge of regional development and coordination of public companies and co-president of the National Team for Revival of Serbian Villages Milan Krkobabic stated that this team includes 78 prominent public figures.
Krkobabic pointed out that the programme is the result of an open debate between members of the national team, who had great help from the government and the support of the President of the Republic.
He pointed out that the programme examines the economic conditions of life in the countryside and work in agriculture, identifies problems and lists proposals for social reforms in the villages of Serbia.
According to him, some of the new proposed measures are the establishment of a state fund for the development of rural infrastructure, special financial incentives for young married couples, women and children living in rural areas, and the transfer of up to 50 hectares of state-owned land for free use to young married couples.
The programme also proposes to allocate houses under the most favourable conditions to those who want to come to live in the countryside and work the land, to reduce the value added tax rate for agricultural cooperatives and completely exempt villagers in border and mountainous areas from most taxes, he explained.
Dragan Skoric, co-president of the National Team and President of the Academic Board for the Village of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts, pointed out that the aim of the team is to solve problems with knowledge and science in order to bring about positive changes and to revive the Serbian village and bring it to an equal footing with villages in Western Europe.
