Serbian Minister of Interior Dragan Jocic has said that the message from the regional meeting of police ministers in Brioni, Croatia, is that internal and external security are inseparable and that they call for efficient cooperation in the fight against organised crime.
In a statement to RTS, Jocic said that there is no safe country in the region and that countries must cooperate in order to win the battle against organised crime.
Participants in the meeting have adopted a strategy to combat organised and economic crime, which envisages the introduction of financial and criminal investigations and the confiscation of property obtained by involvement in organised crime.
The strategy also includes police infiltration into criminal groups and calls for changes to the system of the protection of witnesses in criminal proceedings.
The interior ministers of Croatia, Serbia-Montenegro, Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, and Macedonia as well as UN Secretary General Deputy Special Representative for Police and Judiciary in Kosovo signed a joint declaration to adopt the strategy for fighting organised and economic crime in the region.
The meeting was organised by the Council of Europe (CoE) and the Croatian Ministry of Interior under CARPO, the CoE’s and the European Commission’s regional project to combat crime in Southeast Europe.
