Velimir Ilic
Ilic said on that occasion that this is a large investment that aims to connect in a short period the Bar railroad from Pozega, via Cacak and Kraljevo with Corridor 10, which was one of the European Union’s conditions for its gaining a corridor status.
He said that this is an opportunity for a total reconstruction of existing railroads and stations, as well as other facilities.
Ilic said that the traction installation will completely pay off the electrification investment in the period of eight to ten years, since the use of diesel locomotives is about four times more expensive than the use of electric ones.
Negotiations are under way with the worldwide leading company General Electric, which offered to invest in the Zablace-Dimitrovgrad railroad modernisation and in all side links, by offering very favourable loans, Ilic pointed out. He also added that if the Serbian government accepts this offer, it would be the first time that the world’s largest company in that field invested in Serbia.
The Minister announced the continuation of the electrified railroad works between Cacak and Kraljevo, the installation of posts and contact networks on the Zablace-Slatine route, the beginning of construction works, and added that all necessary material has been procured.
State railway company Zeleznice Srbije general director Milenko Sarancic said that the estimated value of the modernisation works of the railroad between Cacak and Kraljevo amounts to 45 million dinars, and that the Serbian Ministry of Capital Investment allocated 15 million dinars, while the state railway company Zeleznice Srbije procured the rest.
