Following a presentation of the World Bank report “Doing Business in 2006”, held in Belgrade’s city hall, Labus told journalists that Serbia’s preparedness to begin negotiations from the standpoint of real changes and approaching EU regulations is more important than setting a date for the beginning of talks.
Labus said that Serbia has already accomplished more in many fields than some countries that are already EU members or candidates for EU membership.
According to him, Serbia’s obstacles for joining the EU are political, and the first and most important is the cooperation with the tribunal in The Hague. Labus also said that once Serbia overcomes this obstacle, our road to the European Union will be much shorter than that of neighbouring countries.
He pointed out that the Serbian government is seriously working on fully cooperating with the Hague tribunal and that it is only a matter of time for this cooperation to be truly achieved.
The Serbian Deputy Prime Minister also said that regional stability depends on good cooperation between these countries, and stressed that Serbia is giving its full contribution.
