The Prime Minister said that it is necessary to secure additional institutional guarantees for Serbs and other non-Albanians in the province and that an appropriate form of autonomy for Serbs must be established. According to Kostunica, that is the only way to secure safety and respect of basic human rights for Serbs and other non-Albanians in Kosovo-Metohija.
Condemning the recent ethnic violence against Kosovo Serbs, MacShane said that the political dialogue is the best way to find solutions to the Kosovo problem. He said that Europe wants to see the progress in the resolution of that problem, and in Serbia-Montenegro's path towards Europe.
