Prime Minister Ana Brnabic announced today at the EBRD's Western Balkans Investment Summit that the Western Balkans region has enormous potential that needs to be used to a greater extent.
At a gathering attended by the prime ministers of the six economies of the region, Brnabic emphasised that the key, priority projects for Serbia are the "mini Schengen" initiative, as well as infrastructure connectivity in the region.
She noted that the so-called "mini Schengen" refers to the establishment of four types of freedom in the Western Balkans – movement of goods, services, capital and people.
The Prime Minister stressed that Serbia is already working on this with North Macedonia and Albania, expressing her hope that other countries will join the initiative, which in the best and most tangible way contributes to present the region as a single, united market and a place that offers a different future.
The Prime Minister emphasised infrastructure interconnection as another important initiative, recalling that Corridor 10 was completed in Serbia last year.
You can now go through Serbia and take the highways to Hungary, Croatia, North Macedonia, Bulgaria, Brnabic said, adding that the construction of the highway to Montenegro is continuing, as well as the construction of the highway to Sarajevo.
We plan, by the end of the year, to begin construction of the "highway of peace", Nis-Pristina-Tirana-Durres, which the EBRD is likely to finance, the Prime Minister said.
