Abdelmajid Bouchar
The statement says Bouchar was arrested on a Subotica-Belgrade train because he had no identification documents and therefore was brought before a magistrate, who immediately put him into custody.
While the magistrate was checking his identity, the National Bureau of Interpol for Serbia-Montenegro also forwarded the material necessary for facial identification to all member states. Interpol’s National Central Bureau in Madrid confirmed the suspect’s identity through fingerprints.
In an address to the public yesterday, Spanish Minister of Interior Jose Antonio Alonso expressed enormous gratitude to the Serbian police for the arrest of Bouchar, pointing out the fact that Bouchar is the only surviving member of that terrorist group.
Bouchar was brought before the magistrate of the Belgrade District Court, and then taken into custody while awaiting extradition, the Ministry’s statement says and adds that judicial bodies of Serbia-Montenegro and Spain will have further jurisdiction over the extradition process.
The statement recalls that in early April this year, during the attempted arrest of seven terrorists, five of whom had been involved in the attacks, all seven blew themselves up in the flat where they were hiding. A police officer also died and several persons were injured.
Abdelmajid Bouchar, who managed to escape that arrest, is wanted by Interpol on suspicion of belonging to a terrorist organisation. He was put on the wanted list by Interpol's National Central Bureau in Madrid.
