Prime Minister Ana Brnabic spoke today with representatives of education unions and NGOs on violence in schools.
Brnabic suggested that the Working group of the Serbian government tasked with the protection from peer violence focus in the future on two very important issues that require a different approach and sanctions – peer violence and violence against teachers.
The Prime Minister insisted that representatives of NGOs, association of citizens and parents should also take part in the work of the Working group in order to indentify problems and the “bottlenecks” in solving these problems and on the basis of this, propose amendments to laws and by-laws.
The participants in the meeting made a number of suggestions on how to tackle the problem of peer violence.
It was noted that the parents are insufficiently trained to recognise and respond to school violence, that it is necessary to hear proposals from students and that all capacity of the state and the civil sector must be used to reduce peer violence as much as possible.
