The Spanish government has secured a €530,000 grant-in-aid for the new system which is expected to help raise both the quality and security of electricity transmission and distribution not only in Serbia-Montenegro but also in the entire region of South Eastern Europe.
Serbian Minister of Mining and Energy Radomir Naumov said that the grant-in-aid marks the first step in bolstering regional ties and reaffirming the Serbian power utility Elektroprivreda Srbije’s (EPS) position as a leading power company in the region.
The grant-in-aid is part of a Spanish government donation totaling €2 million. The donation also provided funding for an electricity transmission and distribution centre at EPS’s unit in Nis.
EKC, a regional centre established in 1993 by the power utilities of Serbia, Montenegro and Macedonia, is also engaged in real-time monitoring of electricity transmission and global security control.
