Masdar a reliable partner to Serbia in renewable energy development

Minister of Mining and Energy in a caretaker capacity Dubravka Đedović Handanović met today in Vrdnik, on the sidelines of the RES SERBIA 2026 conference, with Masdar Chief Executive Officer Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi to discuss cooperation on renewable energy projects.

Đedović Handanović said that the excellent relations between the President of Serbia and the UAE – Aleksandar Vučić and Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan – provide a solid foundation for the partnership between the two countries across all sectors of the economy, which is particularly evident in the energy sector.

Masdar has proven to be a reliable partner in the development of the renewable energy sector over recent years, the Minister said, expressing confidence that cooperation on new projects will continue in the future.

We see opportunities for cooperation between Serbia’s power utility Elektroprivreda Srbije (EPS) and Masdar in the field of battery energy storage systems, given the UAE company’s extensive experience in this area, Đedović Handanović noted.

The Minister stated that the meeting also covered the signing of a memorandum of understanding between EPS and Masdar on joint project initiatives, including the construction of large-scale battery energy storage systems.

She congratulated the Masdar Chief Executive Officer on the successful completion of the Čibuk 2 project, which has brought the total capacity of the company’s wind farms in Serbia to more than 300 MW, representing almost 25% of the country’s current total solar and wind energy capacity.
