Austria confirms support for Serbia’s European path

Belgrade, 14 September 2026

Minister of European Integration in a caretaker capacity Nemanja Starović talked today with Austrian Ambassador to Serbia Enno Drofenik about Serbia’s progress in the European Union accession process and opportunities for further enhancing cooperation between the two countries.

Starović briefed his interlocutor on the reform activities Serbia is implementing, particularly in the areas of the rule of law, institutional strengthening, and alignment with the EU acquis.

He underlined that Serbia remains firmly committed to full EU membership and to continuing reforms that are, above all, in the interest of its citizens.

The Minister also apprised the Ambassador of the difficult situation facing the Serb people in Kosovo and Metohija, as well as the continuous pressure and threats to their fundamental rights and safety.

Starović expressed his gratitude to Austria for its continued support for Serbia’s European path, highlighting the close political and economic relations connecting the two countries, as well as the strong ties between their citizens.

Drofenik confirmed Austria’s readiness to continue supporting Serbia in implementing reforms and advancing toward EU membership.

The interlocutors agreed that the continuation of regular dialogue and partnership cooperation would contribute to the further strengthening of bilateral relations and Serbia's European perspective.
