Joksimovic noted that the current proposal of the EU budget implies a significant increase in the allocation for pre-accession assistance to candidates and potential candidates (IPA), which, as she explained, is important for research, development of economy and, in particular, agriculture and sustainable regional development.
Oettinger explained that, although the EU budget from 2021 to 2027 does not provide funds for new potential members, there is a possibility that they will choose.
He recalled that this was the case when Croatia joined the Union, that is, specific legal acts will consider participation of the new member state in EU programmes.
According to the new European budget, a significant increase in funds for pre-accession assistance to the Western Balkans is planned, and it depends on the performance and progress that the candidate country achieves in the accession process, thus bringing the region closer to the EU.
