Minister without Portfolio responsible for Innovation and Technological Development Nenad Popovic met today with Swiss Minister of Economy, Education and Research Johann Schneider-Ammann, who said that his country earmarked 100 million Swiss francs as support to Serbia for the period from 2018 to 2021.
At a meeting in Bern, Popovic explained that the funds will mostly be directed to economic development and increase in employment and pointed out that Serbia and Switzerland have excellent cooperation in the field of innovation.
Popovic presented to his Swiss counterpart a programme for the support to the opening of regional innovation start-up centres throughout Serbia. He explained that Serbia is building two state-of-the-art innovation and science and technology parks in Novi Sad and Nis, and that a project of building many start-up centres in the regions of Serbia has been launched.
He urged Swiss partners to help Serbia with their expert knowledge in improving the capacity of these centres, as they did in the Science and Technological Park in Belgrade.
Schneider-Ammann underlined that Serbia and Switzerland are two friendly countries that cooperate in many areas, noting that currently there are 570 Swiss companies doing business in Serbia, which employ over 11,000 people.
He welcomed the introduction of the dual education programme to Serbia and commended efforts of the Serbian government aimed at developing innovative entrepreneurship.
