Serbia receives €16m to manage migrant crisis

Minister of Labour, Employment, Veteran and Social Affairs Zoran Djordjevic stated that the Ministry, as the coordinator of the "MADAD 2" project, will act responsibly and in accordance with all applicable international standards and European standards, values of humanity and solidarity.

Djordjevic and Director for the Western Balkans at the Directorate-General for European Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations of the European Commission Genoveva Ruiz Calavera signed yesterday a contract for the project "Continuation of support for increasing and improving capacities for managing the migrant crisis in Serbia - MADAD 2".

The signing was attended by Prime Minister Ana Brnabic, representatives of the European Commission delegation, led by European Commissioner for Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Johannes Hahn and Head of the EU Delegation to Belgrade Sem Fabrizi.

Hahn added that since 2007, the EU has given Serbia more than €2 billion in grants and noted that the EU is the largest donor in Serbia.

Djordjevic said that thanks to the funds allocated by the European Union for the implementation of the Project "MADAD 2", in the amount of €16 million, we will finance the operating costs of the reception centres for accommodation of migrants, as well as the costs of accommodating unaccompanied minors in institutions of social protection.
