The signing of the Agreement, by which the European Union allocated a €27.4 million grant to support education system reforms in Serbia, was attended by Minister for European Integration
Jadranka Joksimovic and European Commissioner for Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn.
On this occasion, Joksimovic said that both Serbia and the EU wish that the economic migration and outflow of young people from the country stop, which is a consequence of Serbia educating too many students of professions that are not sought on the labour market in Serbia, she noted.
She stressed that the funds received from the EU are going to the right sector, which shows that the EU and Serbia are real partners on the path of development of our country.
Hahn pointed out that this is the first EU agreement of this kind with a Western Balkan country, stressing that children from Serbia deserve the same opportunities as children from the EU.
The funds received will be used to harmonise the education system in Serbia with the needs of the labour market, improve the skills of teaching staff and help educate the most vulnerable minority communities in the country.
