Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications Rasim Ljajic stated today that Serbia is developing the tourism sector significantly and pointed out that the continuation of infrastructure building on the Danube is one of the state’s priorities.

Opening the international conference "Sustainable tourism development in the Danube region: New prospects" which is being held today as part of the International Danube Day, Ljajic announced that three new docks should be built this year on this river.
In the previous period, the state has worked a lot on the development of infrastructure on the rivers and the Danube might become a symbol of cooperation among the states of the region.
Ljajic explained that more than 40 sites in Serbia are under UNESCO’s protection on the Danube, while more than 30 national parks make this river “the Amazon of Europe".
Director of the Tourist Organisation of Serbia Marija Labovic said that today’s conference shows the importance of Serbia’s tourism on the world map and underlined that tourism is very important for sustainable development of our country.
Secretary-General of the World Tourism Organisation Taleb Rifai highlighted the importance of the Danube as a river for the entire region and also its huge potential, which Serbia should use.
The meeting was also attended by Bulgarian Minister of Tourism Nikolina Angelkova, Minister of External Trade and Economic Relations of Bosnia-Herzegovina Mirko Sarovic and Montenegrin Minister of Sustainable Development and Tourism Pavle Radulovic.
