Minister without portfolio in charge of European integration Jadranka Joksimovic met today with Head of the OSCE Mission to Serbia Ambassador Andrea Orizio to discuss the implemented reforms, activities and plans of the OSCE, the European integration of Serbia, as well as regional cooperation.
Joksimovic stressed that membership in the European Union is a strategic decision of the government of Serbia, and reiterated that the reforms are implemented in order to improve standards and a better life, and that European integration is the best mechanism for internal development and progress of a country.
She also pointed out the progress made in the areas covered by Chapters 23 and 24.
The Minister said that Serbia expects the first intergovernmental conference during Malta's EU presidency, at the end of the month or early March, to open Chapter 26, relating to culture and education, and then chapters 20 and 29, on industrial policy and entrepreneurship and the customs union.
The Ambassador pointed out that there are certain areas where the communication of the OSCE Mission and Serbia could further intensify.
He mentioned the issue of migration and horizontal cooperation between the OSCE mission in the region.
They agreed that it is important for Serbia to maintain the current pace of reforms, and to provide greater visibility of cooperation of institutions in Serbia and the OSCE in terms of the strengthening of reforms.
