Minister without portfolio responsible for European integration Jadranka Joksimovic spoke today with UN Assistant Secretary-General, UNDP Assistant Administrator and Director of the Regional Bureau for Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States Ayse Cihan Sultanoglu.
Joksimovic said that the new government will continue with the implementation of reform policies, thus demonstrating responsibility towards society and noted that such policy puts Serbia among serious and responsible candidates for EU membership.
The two officials highlighted the importance of continuing the process of implementation of structural reforms as a precondition for the progress of society and for overcoming structural problems that have for years been an impediment to development.
They also discussed the future directions of technical assistance in bringing the long-term objectives relating to the accession to the EU, and highlighted the importance of knowledge and experience that UN agencies provide to Serbia in this area.
In particular, they emphasised the importance of the framework development partnership between the government of Serbia and the United Nations team, a strategic document that defines the basics of help and support of the UN system and its agencies to the overall economic and social development of Serbia in the next five years.
Sultanoglu expressed the hope that the negotiation chapters 23 and 24 will be opened as soon as possible.
