Nikolic said that, according to estimates, about 25,000 people joined the Islamic State of Al Qaeda and joined armed groups.
He stressed that Serbia plans to adopt a new national strategy for the fight against terrorism by the end of this year, which is the task of the newly formed working group whose president, in line with the challenges in the region of Southeast Europe, the activities under Chapter 24 and protection and safety and the freedom of our citizens.
At the meeting the officials discussed strategies and mechanisms for dealing with these complex threats, as well as deficiencies in the capacities of member states for the implementation of resolutions 1373 and 1624 the UN Security Council.
The State Secretary recalled the steps that Serbia is taking within the OSCE chairmanship this year.
In the framework of the meeting a ministerial declaration was adopted, expressing support to the UN Counter-Terrorism Committee in combating terrorism globally, according to a statement by the Ministry of the Interior.
