The statement by the European Integration Office says that these are the results of public opinion poll "European orientation of Serbian citizens", which this office conducted in mid-June.
The poll surveyed over 1,012 respondents over 18 years of age and it was done according to the Eurobarometer standard.
The number of those who support Serbia's membership in the EU increased by 5% compared to the survey conducted in mid-December last year.
The citizens’ support to reforms is very high, as previous years.
Of the total number of respondents, 71% think that that reforms necessary for joining the EU should be implemented for the benefit of citizens and for creating a better regulated Serbia.
The fight against corruption and the judicial reform are seen by 20% of citizens as some of the most significant reforms that affect their daily lives to the largest degree, and the next in importance is the reform of the health system, voted for by 13%.
These are followed by the reform of the education system (8%), agriculture, better protection of human rights and consumer protection (7%).
The largest percentage of the population, 66% of them, considers that the problems between Belgrade and Pristina should be addressed regardless of whether that is required by the EU, that is, two-thirds of respondents supported the commitment of the government of Serbia to continue the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina and its willingness to come to sustainable solutions through dialogue.
For 17% of citizens EU membership is the way to a better future for young people, for 16% it is greater employment opportunities and for 12% it is the ability to move freely within the EU.
When speaking about non-repayable development aid to Serbia since 2000 to today, 24% of respondents recognised that the EU is the largest donor to our country in the last 13 years, 22% thought that was Russia, 15% thinks it is Japan and 12% believes that is China.
Official data show that in the period from 2000 to 2014, the European Union and its Member States are the biggest donors with about €2.6 billion in donations, which have contributed significantly to the development of Serbia.
Since 2002 the European Integration Office regularly conducts public opinion surveys in order to comprehend the assessment of citizens of their interests in the process of accession to the EU and how they see the future they expect for themselves and their families.
