Bogosavljevic-Boskovic informed the audience about the fact that the characteristics of most villages in Serbia are unemployment, small population, depopulation with a distinct trend of demographic extinction and a high proportion of older population.
There is also a low level of infrastructural equipment, and a poor diversification of productive and non-productive activities in rural areas.
According to her, research shows that 95% of owners of farms are not members of any association or cooperative dealing with agriculture and rural development.
She stated that, in accordance with the objectives of the Strategy of Agriculture and Rural Development of Serbia from 2014 to 2024, the Ministry has begun to define measures to improve the economic position of young entrepreneurs in rural areas.
These measures will also be part of the National Rural Development Programme from 2015 to 2020, in order to enable young people to promote and launch their own production, increase productivity and competitiveness, while respecting the standards.
During her visit to Italy, Bogosavljevic-Boskovic met with Minister of Agriculture, Food and Forestry of Italy Maurizio Martina, who is also the President of the Council of Agriculture Ministers of the EU.
The cooperation of the Serbian government with the Italian company Ferrero was praised during the meeting.
The Final Declaration of the Ministers of Agriculture was adopted at the meeting, which defines common goals and recommendations concerning the activities and the role of youth in rural areas, as well as innovation, research, quality of agricultural products, but also the mitigation of negative impacts of climate change in the Euro-Mediterranean region, reads the statement by the Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection.
