During a meeting in Birmingham, Joksimovic informed Lidington about the current situation in Serbia’s European integration process.
She said that Serbia expects to open Chapter 32, related to financial control of public funds, by the end of the year.
She pointed to the government’s efforts aimed at improving human and minority rights, which is also an important part of internal reforms and the strengthening of the rule of law.
Lidington praised the decisiveness of the Prime Minister of Serbia and the government to implement reforms that are unpopular, but which will certainly improve the lives of citizens in the medium term.
He emphasised the importance of fiscal consolidation and budgetary discipline, given that the UK currently also prepares serious economic measures, which were presented at the annual conference of the ruling Conservative Party.
During her visit to Great Britain, Joksimovic also attended the meeting of representatives of the business community, hosted by the country’s Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne.
At the meeting, she presented the measures which the Serbian government implements in order to improve the investment environment and conditions for foreign investment in Serbia.
Joksimovic attended a reception made by UK Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond on the occasion of the Conservative Party’s conference.
