Minister of Youth and Sports Vanja Udovicic signed on behalf of the Serbian government the Convention on the Manipulation of Sports Competitions at the conference of ministers of sports of the countries of the Council of Europe (CoE) held in Magglingen, Switzerland, which aims at intensifying the fight against match-fixing in sport in Europe.

Udovicic said on this occasion that the amendments to the Law on sports will extend the mandate of the National council for the prevention of violence at sporting events to include the prevention of match-fixing.
He said that Serbia has already defined clearly in its Criminal Code that match-fixing in sport is a criminal offence, and new amendments to the domestic legislation will be fully harmonised with the recommendations of the convention which Serbia signed today.
The Convention on the Manipulation of Sports Competitions has been created in order for Europe to unite in the fight against violations of the rules of competition and it provides a strategic framework for cooperation between European countries in the field of sport and sport development based on the rule of law, human rights and sports ethics.
Also, the convention provides for the establishment of dialogue and cooperation between representatives of government institutions, sports organisations, event organiser and structures involved in betting in sports, in order to quickly and efficiently reach a mechanism to prevent the rigging of results, reads a statement by the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
