Minister of Transport Aleksandar Antic informed a delegation of the World Bank (WB) today about the dynamics of construction of Corridor 10 in Serbia, as this international financial institution is very interested in its completion since it is one of the main creditors.
A statement by the Ministry of Transport reads that the WB delegation confirmed its readiness to assist Serbia in the implementation of all projects it is involved in through the participation of its project management experts.
The WB delegation was led at the meeting in the Serbian government by the bank’s lead transport and sustainable development economist for Europe and Central Asia Baher El-Hifnawi.
Antic underlined that the main goal of the Ministry of Transport is to complete all projects on transport infrastructure in Serbia and to establish a sustainable system of rehabilitation of the road network and its regular maintenance.
The Minister also highlighted as very important the work on raising awareness of all participants in the traffic of the need to increase the level of security and transport culture, as a precondition for sustainable growth in this very dynamic branch of the economy.
WB representatives informed Antic of their decision to take a more active part in the projects of structural reform of railway transport in Serbia, and to contribute to the improvement of passenger and freight railway transport, in the light of obligations which Serbia will assume in that field in the process of accession to the EU.
A more active participation of Serbia in the regional project of three neighbouring countries in the clean-up of the River Sava route was discussed, as it is of great interest for Serbia as a country with insufficiently used water potential for transport purposes, it is added in the statement.
