Other segments of the TP 84 plan will be carried out after the Easter holidays
In a coordinated police action, large quantities of cigarettes without excise duty stamps or with counterfeit excise stamps were discovered in retail outlets, kiosks and shops in 30 towns across Serbia today, the Ministry said in a statement.
As part of thorough checks at border crossing points, police have seized around 1,400 cigarette cartons worth over 300,000 dinars so far.
The Ministry warned that all persons involved in illegal cigarette trade will face strict penalties, in line with the tobacco law.
The law also stipulates the revoking of cigarette sale licenses, a provision which the Ministry said will not be applied over the first two weeks of TP 84 implementation to give cigarette dealers more time to acquire cigarettes with excise stamps.
