Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure in a caretaker capacity Aleksandra Sofronijević met today with a delegation of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), headed by Annette Kyobe, with whom she discussed public investment management (PIM) in Serbia and the implementation of major infrastructure projects.

Investment in infrastructure cornerstone of Serbia’s development

Sofronijević stressed that one of the Ministry’s priorities is to ensure that major infrastructure projects are implemented efficiently and responsibly and in line with established budgetary frameworks, with careful planning and monitoring of all investments.
The Minister said that the state is continuing to invest in infrastructure that represents a cornerstone of the country’s development.
She stated that the Ministry’s task is to implement existing projects responsibly and efficiently, while at the same time preparing new investments that will contribute to the country’s modernisation, stronger industrial development and the creation of conditions for sustainable economic growth.
Sofronijević added that Serbia’s development plans are based on strategic investment in infrastructure, the modernisation of industrial capacities and a gradual transition towards a green economy.
According to her, modern, safe and sustainable infrastructure directly affects the daily lives of citizens and the operations of businesses.
The Minister noted that further infrastructural improvement will therefore remain among Serbia’s key development priorities.
The meeting also addressed the next steps in improving the public investment management system, as well as activities related to the preparation and implementation of new capital projects, according to a statement from the Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure.
