In the presence of Minister of Mining and Energy in a caretaker capacity Dubravka Đedović Handanović, representatives of Serbian power company Elektroprivreda Srbije (EPS), natural gas company Srbijagas and Azerbaijan’s SOCAR today signed a shareholders’ agreement on the development of a project to construct a combined-cycle gas power plant in Niš, which also envisages the establishment of a joint company.

The agreement was signed at the Serbian government building, in the presence of Ambassador of Azerbaijan Tahir Taghizade, by EPS General Manager Dušan Živković, Srbijagas General Manager Dušan Bajatović, and Adviser to the President of SOCAR for business development and portfolio management and SOCAR Türkiye CEO Elchin Ibadov.
Đedović Handanović said that the agreement provides a good basis for developing a project of long-term importance for Serbia, primarily due to growing electricity consumption and the need for cleaner energy sources.
The joint company between EPS, Srbijagas and SOCAR will be 50% owned by the Serbian companies and 50% by the Azerbaijani company.
The agreement defines the companies’ rights and obligations, joint management and unanimity in making key decisions during the preparatory phase of the project, as well as the financing of development activities.
